The National Federation of Meat & Food Traders is a national organisation, which has given representation and business support to thousands of independent meat & food traders for more than 100 years. It is the only nationally recognised organisation to represent the independent meat trader in England and Wales at European, government and industry level.

It has a high degree of expertise and experience in all matters pertaining to the independent meat and food trade, and occupies many positions in major groups and consultative bodies in government and industry. The Federation is also an active member of the International Butchers Confederation, which through its Brussels office, is at the heart of EU affairs.

Philip Edge - National President
This is Philip’s second term as President, previously holding this position in 2009, having been a member of the Executive Council since 1997.

Philip has a long history in the butchery trade stretching back all his working life. He has proudly followed in his father’s footsteps with F L Edge & Son Limited which has now been in business for over 50 years. The shop, located in East Harling near Norwich, is a busy operation catering for between 600 & 900 customers per week. Philip is assisted by son Jonathan in running not only the retail shop but also two EEC Licensed cutting plants. Apart from the shop, their other activities include supplying a major supermarket with a range of sausages, bacon, cooked meats & burgers, specialising in pre-packing for independent retailers as well as supplying numerous catering outlets. In recent times they have also developed a butchery school, also in located in East Harling.
